COWDRAY VIKINGS WIN THE HEYSHOTT CUP

A sunny day on Ambersham 2 saw the conclusion of the Heyshott Cup, with Stonehurst taking on Cowdray Vikings on Sunday, 13th July 2025.

Riding out at number 1 for Stonehurst was William Roberts (0), with Dominic Jones (0) at 2, Nick Clague (3) at 3, and Marcus Cork (3) at Back. For the Cowdray Vikings, The Hon. Lila Pearson (0) wore the number 1 shirt, with Lorenzo Nero (1) at 2, George Pearson (2) at 3, and Ed Hitchman (3) at Back.

The game commenced with an opening 30-yard penalty converted by Hitchman in the first 30 seconds of the game, quickly responded to by a strong field goal from Cork, leaving the scores equal at 1-1 going into the second. The second continued to be closely matched, with another 30-yard penalty conversion by Hitchman, but Roberts continued the volley with a breakaway goal out of the lineout. However, young Nero responded with a brilliant field goal in the last seconds to put Cowdray Vikings ahead 3-2 going into halftime.

Following a halftime break, Cowdray Vikings continued their pursuit of victory with another successfully taken penalty by Hitchman and great defence to prevent any further advancement by Stonehurst, taking them into the last 4-2. The fourth chukka witnessed an unbelievable comeback by Stonehurst with a hat-trick of goals by Cork, but another field goal by Nero equalised the scores at 5-5, calling for an extra chukka. With the crowd in suspense, the extra chukka started with great play by both sides, but an impressive field goal by George Pearson in the early minutes left Cowdray Vikings victorious 6-5.

The Hon. Lila Pearson stepped forward to collect the Heyshott Cup from Lisa Roberts, with the X-Zony Best Playing Pony Rug being presented to Chapa Tete, played by Ed Hitchman, owned by Ollie Cork, and groomed by Jesus and Facundo Aquino.
