Sunday, the 24th of August, saw the conclusion of the Midsummer Cup, with Bamboleo taking on reigning champions Maiz Dulce in the 12-goal final on Lawns 2.
In purple shirts for Bamboleo, Christian Staubach (1) rode out at 1, with Nick Johnson (3) at 2, 4-goaler Chris Lund at 3, and Glenn Sherriff (4) at Back. For Maiz Dulce, Millie Barfoot (0) wore the number 1 shirt, with Alfie Hyde (3) at 2, Will Harper (4) at 3, and 5-goaler Will Emerson at Back.
The first chukka opened with an early 30-yard penalty in favour of Bamboleo, but Emerson quickly responded with a nearside neck-shot goal, swiftly followed by a breakaway goal to take the lead 2-1. Bamboleo hit back with an end-to-end goal finished by Staubach, followed by a 30-yard penalty converted by Lund, regaining the lead 3-2 at the end of the first. The second chukka saw fewer goals, with Harper scoring under pressure two and a half minutes in, before Sherriff added a late goal to leave Bamboleo narrowly ahead 4-3 at half-time.
The third chukka saw the tide turn in favour of Maiz Dulce. Lund and Hyde exchanged field goals, but two well-taken 30-yard penalties by Hyde pushed Maiz Dulce ahead 6-5 going into the last. The final chukka remained tight, with both sides conceding costly fouls. Hyde calmly slotted another 30-yard penalty before converting a precise safety 60, giving Maiz Dulce a 3-goal cushion. Bamboleo mounted a late surge with a penalty 1 and a neck-shot goal from Sherriff, but it wasn’t enough. The final buzzer sealed Maiz Dulce’s 8-7 victory.
After the match, Millie Barfoot stepped forward to reclaim the Midsummer Cup, presented to her by Maya Staubach-Benteler. The X-Zony Best Playing Pony Rug was awarded to Good News Corner, played and owned by Will Emerson.
