CUATRO ESTRELLAS TAKE HOME BRECKNOCK CUP

Monday, the 25th of August, marked the end of the August Bank Holiday festivities, with Strategic Armed Forces Equine Charity (Strategic) taking on Cuatro Estrellas in the Brecknock Cup Final on Ambersham 1.

Riding out at 1 for Strategic was Peter O’Rorke (0), with Harry Revell (2) at 2, Edward Morris-Lowe (3) at 3, and Matt Evetts (3) at Back. For Cuatro Estrellas, Justin Taylor (0) wore the number 1 shirt, with Will Drewitt (2) at 2, Harry Muddle (2) at 3, and 4-goaler Glenn Sherriff at Back.

The first chukka kicked off with strong play from both sides, but it was Revell who broke the deadlock in the sixth minute with a powerful cut shot from distance, giving Strategic a 1-0 lead going into the second. The next chukka followed a similar pattern of tight play. Drewitt struck early, scoring within 30 seconds to equalise for Cuatro Estrellas, but Revell quickly restored Strategic’s advantage with a goal from a lineout, leaving them 2-1 up at half-time.

The third chukka remained low scoring. Evetts extended Strategic’s lead with a well-taken 60-yard penalty, but Muddle responded swiftly with a pressured field goal, keeping Cuatro Estrellas within reach at 3-2 heading into the last. The final chukka brought a dramatic turnaround, with young player Drewitt producing back-to-back field goals to put Cuatro Estrellas ahead for the first time. With two minutes remaining, Strategic rallied with a superb team effort finished by Revell to equalise, but just before the final buzzer, Taylor capitalised on a lineout with a breakaway goal to seal a thrilling 5-4 victory for Cuatro Estrellas.

Justin Taylor stepped forward to receive the Brecknock Cup from Martine Hartridge, Managing Director of Cowdray Park Polo Club. The X-Zony Best Playing Pony Rug was awarded to Ryvita, played and owned by Harry Muddle and bred by Alan Kent.
