The PSI Final came to a close on Saturday 12th September on Lawns, as Trefoil took on HK Polo in the highly anticipated 8-goal final on the penultimate weekend of the season.
Riding out in the green and white shirts for Trefoil was Jonathan Gates (0) at 1, Lottie Lamacraft (1) at 2, Marcus Cork (3) at 3, subbing in for Harry Muddle, and Ollie Cork (4) at Back, replacing Glenn Sherriff. Wearing the number 1 shirt for HK Polo was Iyad Omari (0), with Kamran Ali (1) at 2, Bartolome Fontanarossa (2) at 3, and Nico Fontanarossa (2) at Back. Due to the handicap difference, HK Polo started the match with a ½-goal lead.
Marcus Cork opened the scoring for Trefoil within the first two minutes with an under-pressure run to goal. Despite their best efforts, HK Polo were unable to break through Trefoil’s solid defence, taking the teams into the second chukka with Trefoil leading 1-½.
The second chukka began with Ollie Cork breaking away to score midway through the chukka, before his brother Marcus continued Trefoil’s momentum with an end-to-end goal to extend their lead. However, a last-second mistake from Trefoil handed Bartolome Fontanarossa the opportunity to convert a 40-yard penalty, taking HK Polo into half-time trailing 3-1½.
The third chukka saw a determined push from HK Polo, whose strong defensive play prevented Trefoil from adding to their tally. A successful spot hit from Omari brought HK Polo back into contention, leaving them trailing by just half a goal heading into the final chukka, 3-2½.
Trefoil came out with determination in the last, putting on a dominant display and refusing to give HK Polo an opportunity to close the gap. Marcus Cork opened the scoring with a successful 30-yard penalty conversion before adding another goal in the final few minutes with an impressive under-pressure shot, sealing a 5-2½ victory for Trefoil.
A delighted Jonathan Gates was presented with the PSI Trophy by Chris Bethell on behalf of Peter Pattenden. The X-Zony Best Playing Pony Rug was awarded to Cynthia, played by Ollie Cork and owned by Diego Giagante.
