The Brecknock Cup presented to Maiz Dulce

Monday the 26th of August saw the conclusion of the Brecknock Cup, seeing Maiz Dulce take on Cuatro Estrellas, on Ambersham 2 in front of the bank holiday crowds.

Millie Barfoot (0) rode out at 1 in the yellow shirts for Maiz Dulce, with Lottie Lamacraft (1) at 2, Alfie Hyde (3) at 3, and 4-goaler Bautista Sorzana at Back. For Cuatro Estrellas Justin Taylor (0) wore the number 1 shirt, with Nick Van Oppen (1) at 2, Harry Muddle (3) at 3, and Glenn Sheriff (4) at Back.

The Historic Brecknock Cup was tightly fought for with Maiz Dulce ultimately securing victory 7-5, despite an early lead by Cuatro Estrellas, completing their Bank Holiday winning streak.

Hyde opened the first chukka with a brilliant early goal, however Cuatro Estrellas quickly responded with a goal from Van Oppen and a penalty by Sherriff, to leave Maiz Dulce trailing 1-2 going into the second. Cuatro Estrellas continued to dominate in the second with two goals by Muddle, but a successful penalty by Hyde kept Maiz in contention going into halftime with Cuatro Estrellas leading 4-2.

The tables started to turn for Maiz Dulce in the third, with three goals credited to Lamacraft and Hyde, as well as strong defensive play to prevent Cuatro Estrellas furthering their goal tally, leaving Maiz Dulce up 5 goals to 4 going into the final chukka. The last opened with a successful penalty by Sherriff to equalise with Maiz Dulce, putting the crowds on the edge of their seats, however Hyde continued his goal-scoring streak to leave Maiz Dulce victorious with two further goals.

The Brecknock Cup was presented to Millie Barfoot, by Violet Hyde, who also presented the X-Zony Best Playing Pony Rug to ‘Estrella’ owned and played by Alfie Hyde.
