Sunday the 18th of August, saw the conclusion of the Lodsworth Village Cup with Stonehurst taking on Todham Xzony Polo (Todham), on a busy Ambersham 1.
Riding out in green for Stonehurst was Dominic Jones (0) in 1, Ben Sim (1) in 2, William Roberts (0) at 3, and 3-goaler Nick Clague at Back. Francesca Townend (-1) wore the number 1 shirt for Todham, with Ralph Robson (0) at 2, James Dewey (1) at 3 substituting for Teo Zevaoglu, and Ollie Cork (4) at Back.
William Roberts had a brilliant start to the game opening the first chukka with two goals for his Stonehurst side, however young Dewey quickly responded for Todham leaving the scores close on 2-1 after the first. In the second chukka strong teamwork from Stonehurst saw them begin to pull away, with two goals by Sim and another fantastic goal by Roberts to complete his hat trick, leaving Stonehurst pulling ahead 5-1 going into half-time.
Following the break Stonehurst continued their quest for victory with an outstanding trio of goals by Sim, but a goal by Dewey left Todham with hope going into the last. Despite a last-minute push by Todham, with two more brilliant goals from Cork and Townend in the fourth chukka, a final goal by Jones cemented victory for Stonehurst 9 goals to 4.
The Lodsworth Village Cup was presented to a delighted William Roberts by Simon Bradbury, Head Commercial Officer at Gusbourne. The X-Zony Best Playing Pony Rug was awarded to ‘LJ’ bred, owned, and played by William Roberts.
