A sunny day on Ambersham 5 saw the conclusion of The June 4 Goal Cup, seeing Greywell Polo take on Stonehurst on Saturday 14th June.
For the Greywell side Marius Rønnov Reginar (-1) wore the number 1 shirt, with Matias Maldonado (0) at 2, Harry Muddle (2) at 3, and Niall Donnelly (3) at Back. In the Green shirts for Stonehurst, William Roberts (0) rode out at 1, with Finn Jones (0) at 2, Antonio Sorzana (1) at 3, and 3-goaler Nick Clague at Back.
The opening chukka was a tight affair with neither team managing to find the posts, despite some quality play on both ends. Greywell found their rhythm in the second chukka, with Niall Donnelly breaking the deadlock with a field goal. Harry Muddle followed up with a 30-yard penalty and added another field goal under pressure, giving Greywell a strong lead. However, a costly foul handed Nick Clague a 30-yard penalty conversion to bring Stonehurst back into the game at 3-1 by half-time.
The third chukka opened with a foul in front of Stonehurst’s goal, allowing Muddle to score from the spot. Both teams exchanged successful 30-yard penalties, but field goals from Clague and Sorzana saw Stonehurst close the gap to 5-4. The last chukka saw no further field goals for either side but a successfully converted 60-yard foul by Muddle, and a precisely taken 30-yard by Clague, leaving Greywell Polo to take victory 6-5.
Marius Rønnov Reginar stepped forward to collect the cup from Jenai Clague. The X-Zony Best Playing Pony Rug was presented to Liberty, owned and played by Niall Donnelly, and groomed by Hannah Johnson.
