Stonehurst Retain the Spring Cup Title for a Second Consecutive Year

Sunday 24th May saw Tamodi take on Stonehurst in the Spring Cup 4-Goal Final on a glorious, sun-soaked afternoon on Ambersham 5.

Riding out at number one for the new team Tamodi was Mattia Fabris (-1), with Ashley Glennie (1) at 2, George Cronin (1) at 3, and Harry Muddle (3) at back. Wearing the green shirts for Stonehurst were William Roberts (0) at 1, Vicente Stirling (0) at 2, Antonio Sorzana (1) at 3, and 3-goaler Nick Clague at back.

The first chukka kicked off with a dominant start from Tamodi, beginning with a 40-yard penalty conversion from Muddle, followed by two well-taken goals from New Zealander Cronin. Stonehurst responded with a single goal from Stirling, leaving Tamodi 3-1 ahead going into the second chukka.

Tamodi continued their scoring streak with a goal from Glennie in the first half and maintained a strong defensive performance to prevent any advancement from Stonehurst, taking a strong 4-1 lead into half-time.

The tables began to turn in favour of Stonehurst in the second half, with a phenomenal third chukka. Roberts beautifully converted two 30-yard penalties, before a superb team move was finished with a neck shot from Clague to level the scores at 4-4 going into the final chukka.

The last chukka saw another early 30-yard conversion from Roberts, but Tamodi responded quickly with an under-pressure goal from Muddle to equalise once more. However, the young Argentine Sorzana was not about to let victory slip away, scoring a last-minute goal to secure a 6-5 win for Stonehurst.

A delighted William Roberts stepped forward to receive the Spring Cup for the second year in a row, presented by Jenai Clague. The X-Zony Best Playing Pony Rug was awarded to El Overo Mohecan, owned and played by Nick Clague.
