The July 4 Goal final concluded Sunday the 6th July, with Stonehurst taking on Greywell Polo on Lawns 3.
For the Stonehurst side, William Roberts (0) rode out at 1, with Finn Jones (0) at 2, Antonio Sorzana (1) at 3 and Nick Clague (3) at Back. Marius Ronnov Reginar (-1) wore the number 1 shirt for Greywell Polo, with Ashley Glennie (0) at 2, Harry Muddle (2) at 3, and Niall Donnelly (3) at Back.
The opening chukka saw evenly matched play from both sides. Stonehurst’s Nick Clague struck early in the first minute, only for Harry Muddle to respond with a neck shot before the bell, levelling the score at 1-1.The second chukka continued the trend, with Greywell’s Niall Donnelly seizing a breakaway goal to put his team ahead. Stonehurst responded with a well-executed team goal to end the half 2-2.
After halftime, Donnelly struck again with a clean field goal, but young Antonio Sorzana equalised shortly after, keeping the pressure on. A sharp cut shot from Muddle just before the chukka’s end nudged Greywell ahead 4-3.
The final chukka was decisive. Greywell displayed excellent teamwork and composure, with Donnelly adding two more goals to his tally. Australian Ashley Glennie delivered a standout goal to further cement their lead. Although William Roberts found the goalmouth in the dying moments, it wasn’t enough to reverse the tide, with a final score of 7-4 to Greywell Polo.
Following the match, Marius Ronnov Reginar stepped forward to receive the July 4 Goal Cup from Hermione Clague and Poppy Jones. The X-Zony Best Playing Pony Rug was awarded to Caesar, played by Ashley Glennie, owned by Jim Gilmore and cared for by grooms Diego Jesus D’elia and Leo Chavez.
