In the green shirts for Trefoil, Jonathan Gates (0) rode out at 1, with Will Drewitt (2) at 2, Harry Muddle (2) at 3, and 4-goaler Glenn Sherriff at Back. Peter O’Rorke (0) wore the number 1 shirt for Strategic, with Duncan Hotston (1) at 2, Ollie Cork (4) at 3, and Matt Evetts (3) at Back.
Within the first minute, a great cut shot from 30 yards out by Evetts cemented Strategic on the scoreboard, however, this was quickly responded to with a field goal by Sherriff. Both teams continued their to and fro with a brilliant breakaway goal by Hotston and a successfully converted 40-yard penalty by Sherriff, but an under-pressure nearside goal by Evetts just before the buzzer left Strategic leading 3-2 after the 1st. The second chukka saw dominant play by Trefoil to prevent any further progression from Strategic, in addition to a hat-trick of goals by Sherriff, to leave Trefoil with a good lead- 5 goals to 3 going into half-time.
The third chukka saw limited action, with a field goal by Cork and another costly foul against Strategic, successfully converted by Sherriff from 40 yards out, leaving Trefoil with a 2-goal lead going into the last. However, the final chukka witnessed a dramatic turnaround, with a pressured field goal by Cork and a successful 30-yard penalty conversion to equalise. With all to play for in the final 2 minutes, a very determined Cork continued his goal-scoring streak with two consecutive goals straight out of the lineout, before a final breakaway goal by Evetts just before the buzzer sealed victory for Strategic, 9-6.
A thrilled Peter O’Rorke stepped forward to collect the Barrett Cup from his daughter, Amicia Van Gils. The X-Zony Best Playing Pony Rug was presented to Lovelocks Rhianna, played by Ollie Cork in the last chukka, owned by Mathieu Van Delden, and beautifully turned out by her grooms Jesus & Facundo Aquino, Maty Sosa, and Emily Russell.
