Gould Victorious in Farewell Cup

The Farewell Cup final set the scene for the last game of the 2024 season, with Bad Boys Polo Team facing Gould, on the 22nd of September surrounded by all the club supporters at Ambersham 1.

Riding out at 1 in the green shirts for Bad Boys Polo Team was Mathieu Van Delden Jnr (0), with Mathieu Van Delden (0) at 2, Phillip Seller (2) at 3, and 4-goaler Ollie Cork at Back. Gussie Gould wore the number 1 shirt for Gould Polo Team, with Fred Davies (0) at 2 substituting for Ralph Robson (0), Jack Aldridge (2) at 3, and Jimmy Wood (4) at Back.

The brilliant game saw skilful play from both sides, with an early lead from Gould and a brilliant comeback by Bad Boys to call for an extra chukka, but it wasn’t quite enough with Gould concluding their season with victory 6-5.

The first chukka saw an equal start by both teams with Cork starting the goal tally with a successful penalty conversion for Bad Boys, but young Fred Davies quickly responded to leave both teams equal on 1-1 after the first. The second chukka saw fantastic play by Gould to break away with two goals by Wood leaving them leading 3-1 going into halftime.

After the fields had been trodden in by the masses of club members, supporters and four legged friends, the game continued with another brilliant goal by Wood, but Cork wasn’t letting victory escape him with another successful penalty, leaving the score 4-2 going into the last. The final chukka saw a change in tide for Bad Boys with a fantastic team effort to equalise seeing goals from Cork and Van Delden Jnr, calling for an extra chukka. With the crowds on the edge of their seats, the teams continued their pursuit for victory but despite the impressive efforts of the Bad Boys it wasn’t enough to fend of Gould with a brilliant goal by Aldridge to leave them victorious 6-5.

An overjoyed Gussie Gould stepped forward to receive the Farewell Cup, kindly presented by Avla Pitt. The X-Zony Best Playing pony rug was awarded to ‘Anna’ played and owned by Ollie Cork.
