Maiz Dulce victorious in the Midsummer Cup

The penultimate 12-goal of the season concluded on Sunday the 25th of August, seeing Maiz Dulce take on Blenheim, at a bustling Lawns 2.

Millie Barfoot (0) rode out at 1 for her Maiz Dulce side, with Alfie Hyde (3) at 2, Will Harper (4) at 3, and 5-goaler Will Emerson at Back. The Marquess of Blandford wore the number 1 shirt for Blenheim, with Zac Beim (4) at 2, 5-goaler Jose Ramon Araya at 3, and David Ashby (3) at Back.

The closely fought game saw excellent play from both sides keeping spectators on the edge of their seats until the final bell, where Maiz Dulce ultimately emerged victorious 7 goals to 6.

The first chukka saw a great opening goal by Emerson, but a long shot by Ashby finished by Araya cemented Blenheim on the leaderboard, however a cut shot in response by Emerson left Maiz Dulce leading 2-1 after the first. Hyde and Harper started the second chukka out strong for Maiz Dulce with a goal each, however Blenheim responded with a successful penalty conversion by Ashby and a further goal by Araya, leaving Maiz Dulce leading by only 1 going into halftime.

The third chukka saw a similar story with another two goals from both sides, leaving only a fine margin going into the fourth. With all still to play for both teams fought hard in the last, seeing successful penalty conversions by Emerson and Blandford. Still, despite Blenheim’s efforts to catch their opponents, Maiz Dulce managed to keep their noses ahead to secure victory.

A delighted Millie Barfoot stepped forward to receive the Midsummer Cup, kindly presented by HRH the Crown Prince of Oman and the Marchioness of Blandford. The X-Zony Best Playing Pony Rug was presented to ‘Sumo’, owned and played by Will Harper.
