Trefoil raise the Barrett Cup

A windy day at Ambersham 2 set the scene for the Barrett Cup Final on the 17th May, with new team Lumina taking on Trefoil.

In the Black and Gold shirts for Lumina Teo Zevaoglu rode (2) rode out at 1, with Niall Donnelly (3) at 2, Nick Johnson (3) at 3, and 0-goaler John Bunn at Back. Jonathan Gates (0) rode out at 1 for Trefoil, with Lottie Lamacraft  (1) at 2, Harry Muddle 3() at 3, and 4-goaler Glenn Sherriff at Back.

The opening chukka saw an evenly matched start from both sides. An under-pressure field goal from Johnson opened the scoring within the first two minutes, followed by a perfectly executed Penalty 2 from young Zevaoglu. However, another Penalty 2, this time for Trefoil in the closing moments, left the score at 2-1 heading into the second chukka. The second chukka brought more attacking action from both teams. Sherriff struck three goals for Trefoil, while Johnson added two for Lumina. A breakaway end-to-end goal from Zevaoglu ensured Lumina maintained a narrow 5-4 advantage going into halftime.

The third chukka saw the momentum begin to shift in Trefoil’s favour. Strong defensive play prevented Lumina from adding to their tally, while a successful penalty conversion from Sherriff levelled the score at 5-5 heading into the final chukka. Trefoil continued to build on that momentum in the fourth. An early goal out the lineout for Muddle, followed by a breakaway goal from Sherriff, put Trefoil firmly in control. With Lumina unable to break their second-half scoreless run, Trefoil secured a 7-5 victory.

A delighted Jonathan Gates stepped forward to receive the Barrett Cup from Andrew Ward. The X-Zony Best Playing Pony Rug was awarded to Ghandi, played, owned, and bred by Glenn Sherriff.
