A wonderfully warm and sunny weekend which should have ended with our final games of the season on Sunday however Corona Virus had a different idea about our polo fixtures list for 2020. It should also have been one of the highlights of the season, the Annual and extremely popular and highly contested Dog Show! Never fear it will be back in 2021 condition permitting.
The annual Ham v Cowdray invitation match was held on the iconic River ground; there can hardly be a more perfect setting for Cowdray to welcome their invited guests for a match. A super game, with Cowdray’s 8 goal team represented by Vice President Lila Pearson with her son, George, Ben Turner and Henry Fisher against the Ham team 7 goal with Martin Hay, Benjie Davis, Gus Prentice and Jason Warren. Ham were victorious on the final whistle with a ½ goal lead, final score Cowdray 6 – Ham 6 ½
Sunday saw the final of the inaugural Tillington Trophy, a new 2 goal tournament added to the Cowdray fixtures list. With young demographic for both teams with Wilf Fine’s Sea Breeze 2 team had Rufus Uloth and Will Millard and Angus Rowan Hamilton take on Creighton Boyd’s Confido with Charlotte Boyd, Timi Badiru, Alfie Hyde and Ben Crowe. A fabulous game, Cowdray Polo Manager, Chris Bethell said “it was far above a 2-goal standard and was by far the most entertaining match of the weekend to watch “– well done teams.
