Six teams entered the Club’s second 4 goal tournament of the season which saw Lila Pearson’s Cowdray Vikings taking on Hoes Farm. The rain stayed away from Ambersham 5 for the Final on an overcast Sunday afternoon.
Posy Ash wore the number 1 shirt for Cowdray Vikings with Lila at number 2, her son, George, at number 3 and Ed Hitchman at Back. Rufus Burrell-Thompson played in position number 1 for Hoes Farm with Wilf Fine at number 2, Boyd Allen at 3 and Niall Donnelly at Back.
Cowdray Vikings were first on the scoreboard with two swift goals from Ed Hitchman. Cowdray were also first to foul, giving away a 60-yard penalty hit to Hoes Farm but it was put wide by Niall Donnelly. Boyd Allen then scored to put Hoes Farm onto the board. The first chukka ended 2-1 in favour of Cowdray Vikings.
Cowdray Vikings continued strong in attack and maintaining possession into the second chukka. It was a family affair as both Lila and George Pearson scored to put Cowdray Vikings ahead by three goals. Niall Donnelly had the chance to score a 60-yard penalty after Cowdray fouled but he sent the ball wide. The score was 4-1 to Cowdray Vikings at the end of the second chukka.
Hoes Farm were able to gain back possession at the start of the third chukka with Niall Donnelly and Rufus Burrell-Thomas making attempts to score but unable to put the ball between the posts. Ed Hitchman scored his third goal of the game to put Cowdray Vikings ahead by four goals. Cowdray Vikings fouled to give Hoes Farm another chance to increase their score, but Donnelly put the ball wide to the left. The chukka ended with a score of 5-1 to Cowdray Vikings.
The ball was thrown in at the start of the fourth and final chukka. Hoes Farm gained possession out of the line out and took the ball up towards the Cowdray goal mouth but it was picked up by George Pearson who raced up the field to score again for Cowdray Vikings putting them ahead by five. Niall Donnelly picked up the ball out of the next line out and ran to goal to score for Hoes Farm making the score 6-2 to Cowdray Vikings. Ed Hitchman took the ball out of the throw in and hit a big shot up towards goal. Perfectly positioned, Posy Ash picked up the ball and hit it neatly between the posts to score her first goal of the match for Cowdray Vikings. Cowdray Vikings later fouled to give Hoes Farm another penalty opportunity but Donnelly sent the Safety 60 wide to the right. Not giving in, Hoes Farm gained back possession and Donnelly sent a big shot up the field, but it was backed out by goal mouth by Ed Hitchman. Both Donnelly and Allen made further attempts at goal but both were wide to the left. The whistle blew to end the match 7-2 to Cowdray Vikings.
The X-Zony Best Playing Pony rug was awarded to Bounty, played by Ed Hitchman and owned by Ollie Cudmore.
