Quarter Finals of the 2018 King Power Gold Cup for the British Open Polo Championship saw the following results:-
In the first Quarter Final, Andrey Borodin’s Park Place faced Ben Soleimani’s RH Polo in a hard fought match with little between the teams throughout. However, a strong final chukka from RH Polo won them the game on a score of 15-11 and a coveted place in the Semi Finals.
A fast-paced game between ALFI Investments and El Remanso played for the inaugural Argentine Ambassadors Cup on 14th July completed the second Quarter Final. The first half was close but El Remanso pulled away in the second half with relentless attacking, virtually sealing the victory in the fourth chukka with six goals on the scoreboard. On a total score of 16 to ALFI Investments 11, the four man English squad of El Remanso remain undefeated as they head towards the Semi Finals. Finalists in 2017, they ultimately lost out to King Power in the Final.
La Bamba de Areco vs Talandracas saw a win for Jean Francois Decaux’s La Bamba de Areco side. After trading goals in the first two chukkas, La Bamba de Areco controlled the remainder of the game, pushing their lead to five by the final chukka, although Talandracas crept back and lost by a margin of only two goals on a final score of 10-8 to Decaux’s side. Decaux is delighted to be once again in a Gold Cup Semi Final.
Played for the Centenary Cup on 15th July, La Indiana vs Valiente was a hard fought but somewhat scrappy match, with the world’s finest 10 goal players, Adolfo Cambiaso and Facundo Pieres, on opposing sides and fighting for every ball. An even first half saw the teams deadlocked at 5-5, but a dominant second half from La Indiana, led by six goals from Facundo Pieres, saw La Indiana run away in the final three chukkas for their 13-8 victory and a place in the Semi Finals.
On Wednesday 18th July, the first Semi Final between El Remanso and La Indiana will be played for the Ellerston Cup at 12 noon. Mrs Roz Packer will present the trophy, which commemorates the famous Ellerston teams of the 1990s. The second semi Final between RH Polo and La Bamba de Areco will be played for the Tramontana Cup at 4.00 pm and will be presented by Anthony Embiricos whose Tramontana side remains the record holder for the highest number of consecutive wins in the Gold Cup.
