CICERO CUP FINAL – Sunday 23rd May
Four teams entered the first 15 goal of the season, The Cicero Cup, which saw Jonathan Rothermere’s Ferne Park, take on David Turner’s DJ Cats, on Lawns 1 in yet more rain. The match got off to a slow start in testy conditions with Jake Daniels scoring the one and only goal of the first chukka, converting a 30-yard penalty to put DJ Cats on the scoreboard first. The tables then turned in the second chukka with Ferne Park’s Joaquin Pittaluga scoring the only goal of the chukka, with DJ Cats missing two opportunities to retain their lead. Louis Hine scored the third goal of the game in the third chukka for Ferne Park with Jake Daniels successfully converting another 30-yard penalty for DJ Cats. The chukka ended with just two goals apiece.
Joaquin Pittaluga scored again for Ferne Park at the start of the fourth. Jake Daniels was able to equalise by scoring from a spot hit in favour of DJ Cats. Marcos Araya then deposited the ball between the posts putting Ferne Park ahead by one. DJ Cats equalized again with another goal from Jake Daniels to finish the fourth chukka four all. Ferne Park came out strong in the last with three unanswered field goals scored between Louis Hine and Joaquin Pittaluga. Jake Daniels converted his third 30-yard penalty of the game for DJ Cats, however Ferne Park continued to widen their lead with Marcos Araya scoring the fifth and final goal of the chukka from a spot hit. The final score was 8-5 to Ferne Park.
The X-Zony Best Playing Pony rug was awarded to Irenita Pechocha, played and owned by Joaquin Pittaluga.
JUBILEE CUP FINAL – Sunday 23rd May
Six teams entered the first 6 goal tournament of the season, the Jubilee Cup, with Lila Pearson’s Cowdray Vikings and father-son duo, Duane and Terence Lent, with their team Innovent.
Cowdray Vikings dominated the first half of the game on Lawns 3, however Innovent gained momentum as the match progressed. Ed Hitchman put Cowdray Vikings onto the scoreboard first in the opening chukka with Innovent unable to score. Ed Hitchman scored the second and third goals of the game to put Cowdray Vikings firmly in the lead, however Terence Lent converted a 30-yard penalty at the end of the second chukka to get the ball rolling in favour of Innovent. Innovent proceeded to dominate the third chukka with Nick Clague and Terence Lent scoring a goal each and Cowdray Vikings unable to respond.
The score was 3-3 at the start of the fourth and final chukka when Innovent pressed into the lead 5-3 following Terence Lent’s third goal of the game and Rufus Uloth’s taking his first opportunity to score. Ed Hitchman took the ball up the field to score for Cowdray Vikings, however Terence Lent ran the ball to goal once again leaving Innovent two goals up with a minute to go. The game ended 6-4 in favour of Innovent.
