Cowdray Park Polo Club is one of the oldest and most prestigious polo clubs in the world. Located in the South Downs National Park near Midhurst, West Sussex, the club has been the home of British polo for over a century. The grounds sit within the 16,500-acre Cowdray Estate, owned by Viscount Cowdray. The club hosts the British Open Championship (the Gold Cup), the most prestigious polo tournament in the UK, every July.

Polo is free to watch on most match days at Cowdray Park. There is no formal dress code for general admission. Dogs are welcome and must be kept on a lead. Matches are played from April to September, typically at weekends and on Wednesday afternoons. A polo match lasts around one and a half hours, divided into periods called chukkas (seven minutes each). At half time, spectators are invited onto the pitch for divot stomping, a polo tradition where you tread the turf back down. Cowdray Park is family friendly with open grounds, a clubhouse bar, and a relaxed atmosphere. Flat shoes are recommended.

The British Open Championship, known as the Gold Cup, is the most prestigious polo tournament in the UK. It has been held at Cowdray Park since 1956. The Gold Cup is a 22-goal high-goal tournament featuring the best polo teams in the world. The 2026 Gold Cup Final is scheduled for 19 July 2026. Quarter finals and semi finals are held in the preceding weeks. Tickets for enclosures and hospitality are available online. General admission to the lawns area is free on most days.

The polo season at Cowdray Park runs from April to September. Weekend tournaments run throughout the season at various handicap levels. The Argentine Ambassador's Cup, Midhurst Town Cup, and Dollar Cup are among the regular fixtures. Midweek chukkas (practice matches) are available for playing members. The club also hosts social events including Gin & Jazz, the Gold Cup Launch Party, Ibiza Night, and members evenings.

The Cowdray Park Polo Academy offers polo lessons for complete beginners through to experienced riders. Adults and children can learn to play polo from scratch in West Sussex. Lessons include stick and ball tuition, arena chukkas, and supervised play on the grounds. All equipment and polo ponies are provided. The academy runs throughout the polo season from April to September. No previous riding experience is required for introductory sessions. Gift vouchers are available.
